Betrayal

To the editor:

I’m picturing Trump supporters turning to Fox News and believing the network will do damage control now that the Trump interview statements recorded by Bob Woodward have been released (footnote 1). As always, Fox will attack others in twisted ways to deflect from the president’s words.

However, Trump finally spoke truth when we hear him say that the coronavirus is much more dangerous than the ordinary flu, with a mortality rate of 5% vs. 1% (2). And we hear Trump say that it’s a threat to young people, even as he encourages schools to reopen. Every reputable TV network, newspaper, medical worker and politician has been reporting these facts from the beginning. They gave us the information about wearing masks, etc., that would protect us, our families and our economy.

But not the president and the Republicans, who wanted to stay in his good graces. They didn’t see fit to organize, lead and guide us. They are all complicit in spinning a media sham about blame and the greatest economy ever in their manipulation to retain power. The only panic Trump was trying to avoid was his own and his chances of reelection.

Trump betrayed his oath by not protecting the citizens of this nation. I think that a president who knowingly told people it was a Democrat hoax doesn’t really care about anyone but himself. This time, a person trying to pass off the president’s spoken words as fake news is only kidding themselves, not the rest of us.
