The flower planters are back

To the editor:

With spring comes a rebirth of our beautiful natural surroundings. The Downtown Advisory Board of Saranac Lake recognizes the importance of the reawakening for our business community and is excited to see that the beautiful flower displays in the 45 gray planters will once again grace the streets of the downtown area, thanks to an anonymous donation.

With the placement of the planters, our downtown will once again be showing its colors. Of the 45 total planters, 33 are co-op planters, with the cost typically being shared 50-50 between downtown businesses and the village of Saranac Lake. However, this year a generous anonymous donor has covered the cost for the businesses so they do not have to bear that financial responsibility this year. In addition, two planters are paid for by the town of Harrietstown and 10 more are paid in full by the village. The gorgeous arrangements are created by Scott’s Florist.

This is an important way all of us can visually witness the renewal of hope and take pride in our communal spirit that makes our community so special. As we eventually open all our community businesses, please remember to obey the guidelines and buy locally whenever possible. These challenging times remind us all that taking care of family, friends and community is what really matters.
