To the editor:

Thank you for publishing four excellent pieces on Earth Day. Your editorial was insightful about the choices before us; Jim Abendroth’s letter about the connection between our diet and global warning invites us to a meaningful change we can make for the sake of our children’s future; Madeline Clark’s impassioned appeal to move away from fossil fuels was both well researched and persuasive; and Richard Gast’s retrospective on the origins of Earth Day honored those leaders who inspired previous generations to care for our island home.

Many of us missed celebrating Earth Day in ways we are used to. Your editorial spread was all the more encouraging in the midst of the COVID crisis. Earth care is our generation’s vocation. We can hardly claim to worship our Creator if we heedlessly trash God’s creation.
