Not unwelcoming, just practical

To the editor:

I’m writing in response to the letter accusing the locals of being unwelcoming to travelers and second-home owners from high risk areas. The fact is that we have ALL been asked to stay in place and limit contact with people. I have been MANDATED not to work, with no idea when I can go back. My daughter does not come up to visit, and I have canceled air travel plans that may put others at risk.

It’s not about having a wing at the hospital with your name on it — we are all being asked to do our part to prevent the spread of this virus. One only has to look around to see that the cars in the parking lots at our grocery stores and in the driveways at Airbnbs are from out of state or from the city. That is not quarantining! People are walking down Main Street in Lake Placid like they are on vacation.

So let’s all do our part and stay home. The sooner we get this in check, the sooner we can welcome our visitors back.
