Sidewalk issue in Tupper Lake

To the editor:

Following is Barbara Close’s address to the Tupper Lake town board on Feb. 13:

It has been over two years since we first asked you about repairing the sidewalk across from Sunmount. At that time you told us there was no money in the budget. That was 2017. In 2018 you and the board never allotted any money for the sidewalk. As a matter of fact, you wanted to abandon it, but the state office in Watertown and Gov. Cuomo have instructed you that this sidewalk is your responsibility as town supervisor to have it repaired and maintained. Now in 2020 you and the board have not put money aside to repair and maintain the sidewalk.

Do we have to ask Gov. Cuomo to stop by your office next time he is driving through Tupper Lake on his way to Lake Placid? Do you think that you don’t have to comply with the state request and repair and maintain this sidewalk? Are you above the laws of New York state? I don’t think so. If you think that then you should not be the Tupper Lake town supervisor.

I have copies of the letters that you were sent from New York state concerning the sidewalk. So when are you going to start complying?

I have sent copies of this letter to both Watertown and Gov. Cuomo.

Thank you,

Barbara Close
