Apolitical Winter Carnival 2020

To the editor:

For 50 years I have attended the Winter Carnival parade. I was informed as a newbie, back in 1971, that historically the Winter Carnival parade was always free of politics, as gift to everyone. It was one of the few things we all could enjoy without the stain of political animosity. It is what we do for each other as residents of this great area.

This history is no longer in evidence as politics this year entered for the first time in my memory. The Democratic Party candidates for U.S. Congress, New York state Senate and New York state Assembly carried signs encouraging political support. Please take notice that our Assemblyman Billy Jones as well as Sen. Betty Little showed their support for all of us without political identification.

As previously mentioned by yours truly, both U.S. senators, a majority of the U.S. Congress representing New York, the Franklin County legislature, New York state Senate, New York state Assembly, town of Harrietstown board and Saranac Lake village board are all controlled by the Democratic Party. Apparently this is not enough for some, as shown during the Winter Carnival parade this year. Some of us say enough is enough! Sad!

Where does the Adirondack Daily Enterprise editorial staff stand on this issue? I believe that they should have taken a stand on this issue without my encouragement. Time will tell. Stay tuned. Ta ta!
