Firefighters saved home from destruction

To the editor:

On Sunday, Jan. 12, I came home at noon and opened the front door to my house. I was immediately faced with an impenetrable wall of smoke. I quickly went next door to my neighbor’s house and called 911, which dispatched the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department to my home. Within minutes the first responders arrived quickly, followed by the fire trucks. Through their quick actions, they isolated fire damage to the living room by expertly extinguishing the flame.

I greatly appreciated how capably they went about the job of securing my house from fire and clearing the smoke. I especially was grateful for fire department members talking to me and keeping me abreast of what they were doing and the status of the fire. While my house did suffer damage, their quick response and skill prevented the loss of my house. I will be eternally thankful for what they did.

With many thanks,

Stephen DeHond
