Craig Donaldson has done a great job

To the editor:

For the past 37 years the town of Harrietstown has been fortunate to have Craig Donaldson as highway superintendent. Craig cleaned roads of snow, maintained bridges, replaced culverts and other miscellaneous duties for the town, and even found time to assist other towns in the area with paving, snow removal, stockpiling salt and sand, and loaning vehicles when needed. He was a superintendent whom the town board referred to as a “working” superintendent. As an elected official, the highway superintendent is not required to perform duties normally done by his workers. The highway superintendent hires and fires his workers without town board approval. It is almost like the Highway Department operates as its own government. The town board sets the highway superintendent’s salary and sets his budget for the year, and from there he is charged with operating the town Highway Department.

Craig has been an outstanding highway superintendent, and the taxpayers of the town of Harrietstown can be proud of his job ethic and performance for the past 37 years. Craig will be greatly missed, and the town board acknowledged his retirement “with regret.” On behalf of the taxpayers of the town of Harrietstown, thank you for your years of service.
