To the editor:

I just don’t get Elise Stefanik’s support of assault weapons. It seems to me to be common sense that people don’t need those kinds of guns. What are they used for? Not hunting game. Not for target practice. They were made for use in wars. That’s it. So why doesn’t Stefanik support their ban? After the weapons are used in mass shootings, Stefanik voices compassion for the victims. Why can’t she take it a step further and not have the weapons available in the first place? I sure hope it doesn’t have anything to do with her need to be re-elected. I think it would be great if she stood up and courageously voted against these destructive weapons. I’ll bet she’d be able to sleep better.
