Bravo, Lindy and Cliff — two fine people

To the editor:

Congratulations to Cliff Donaldson and Lindy Ellis for their involvement in our sublime community.

Cliff is a “native,” like two of my children, Matthew and Marlijne. Lindy is a “power-local” like the other two, Jessica and Annelies. I have been finding it difficult to choose a favorite from my four kids strictly based on the “native/local” distinction. Likewise, it would be foolish for us to choose between Cliff and Lindy based on their birth certificates.

I share the following, chosen not for political tension but because both candidates have expressed a similar opinion about the Earth’s climate in an Enterprise “compare and contrast” review of their ideas.

First, Cliff, congratulations for your concerns about the environmental changes taking place in our shared world. I am grateful. I thank you.

Lindy, congratulations on the following Franklin County legislation:

You and Legislator Carl Sherwin offered up a Franklin County resolution which passed unanimously supporting the United Nations Climate Summit on Sept. 19 — and also the Climate Strike, which brought our school kids to the street to experience an example of our shared political tensions. In the next few weeks, these municipalities also unanimously passed replications of your resolution: village of Saranac Lake, town of Harrietstown, town of Tupper Lake, village of Tupper Lake, village of Lake Placid and town of North Elba.

Lindy, congratulations on pulling together the entire south end of Franklin County to agree on a contentious challenge. Lindy represents the south end as her beloved responsibility. Plus, she represents both the north and south ends of Franklin County, using her placid negotiating skills to get legislation on the books.

Lindy, congratulations for being at the top of your game as our Franklin County legislator. I have reviewed the minutes of the Franklin County legislature’s meetings. Lindy is powerfully skilled at representing us. Her skill set is a perfect fit for the job. Readers, please remember: “Better is the enemy of good.” Why change?

Again, congratulations and thank you both for all that you have done for all of us.
