49th Lake Placid Classic thanks

To the editor:

On Oct. 12, the 49th annual Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon and 10K was held. This year’s event was the largest in its 49-year history, with over 710 entries. Many of the participants were first-time visitors to our community, experiencing a brilliant fall day. I would once again like to thank the residents of the village of Lake Placid and the town of North Elba for accepting this, the last road race in our area for the summer of 2019. The Lake Placid Classic is one of the only running events that is not-for-profit and operates entirely with volunteers, with all profits directed at local youth and wellness organizations. This year we can add significantly to our six-year total of over $50,000 contributed to the youth of the Lake Placid region and wellness scholarship funds.

This event would not be possible without our title sponsors Adirondack Health, The Fallen Arch and Long Run Wealth; gold sponsors MVP Healthcare; silver support from Lake Placid Family Dental, Lake Placid Pub and Brewery, WSLP/Adirondack 105.5, Balanced Bodyworks and Lake Placid Sports Medicine; and bronze sponsorship from Burnham Financial, Hannaford, Wildwood on the Lake and Aldi foods.

This year’s race received the support from over 70 volunteers from the Lake Placid/Wilmington Connecting Youth and Communities teens, parents and leaders, staff from Adirondack Health and many members of the Lake Placid community, all contributing to a successful event.

Lastly, I wish to thank the village of Lake Placid, town of North Elba, North Elba Park District, Olympic Regional Development Authority, Greg Borzilleri, Lake Placid police, highway and fire departments, Essex County Sheriff’s Department, Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, the New York State Police and all the volunteers. Without their enormous support, this event would not be possible.

Sincerely,

Rick Preston
