Heroes emerged after staircase collapsed
To the editor:
We are writing to you, wishing to express our heartfelt thanks to the heroes of the day who assisted in helping us, three casualties, after a dreadful accident on the Saranac Lake riverside.
On Tuesday, Aug. 27 at around noon the entire staircase that had been attached to a boathouse on premises at Indian Rock Trail came away from the building, resulting in the three of us falling from a height to ground level, seriously injured and unable to move.
An unknown doctor from Buffalo, his family and friends were passing by on the river and stopped to offer help. As did Billy Martin on his boat. True heroes. Thanks must also go to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad, the emergency medics and truly fantastic neighbors, all of whom worked together to help rescue us. Not forgetting the care given by doctors and nurses at the Adirondack Medical Center.
Words cannot express how much we appreciate what you “all” did. Two weeks later, we are slowly recovering, but recovering we are.
Thank you,
Lynne Tutchings (visiting from the UK)
Betty Kunkel (Indian Rock Trail)
Adrian Vaughn (Vaughn Road)
