Saranac Lake 6er message painted on street
To the editor:
The Saranac Lake 6er challenge has become an important recreational opportunity for Saranac Lake since its inception in 2013. The challenge has been taken on by hikers young and old from near and far, with added incentives to hike for a Winter 6er, an Ultra 6er or a Winter Ultra 6er. In fall of 2017, a 6er Relay event was introduced as well.
To help bring attention to this incredible program and beautify our community, the Downtown Advisory Board spearheaded the painting of the 6er logo at the intersection of Main Street and Broadway. For this, we would like to give thanks to the following individuals who stepped up to volunteer to paint: Lindy Ellis, Jeremy Evans, Kathy Ford, Tim Fortune and Rich Shapiro. We’d also like to thank Bear Essentials for providing the stencil used to help outline the 6er logo. Our greatest gratitude and special thanks go to Coakley Home and Hardware of Saranac Lake for generously donating the paint.
If you haven’t had the opportunity yet, come downtown and check it out. Better yet, get out for a hike this summer on one of the 6er mountains for spectacular views and a newfound appreciation of what makes Saranac Lake so special.
Sincerely,
Cassandra Hopkins
