Getting proactive about fighting climate change

To the editor:

Having grown up, worked, and spent time in central and northern New York, I’m not surprised that people are moving toward acceptance of climate change. This isn’t a political issue, as it has been miscast by self-interested politicians across the country. It’s a survival issue, and it’s only going to get worse if we don’t cooperate to fix it.

That’s why I’m such a proponent of carbon fee and dividend. The CF&D bill currently in the U.S. House of Representatives may be buried under more dramatic news, but it’s a history-maker: a bipartisan bill with a concept backed up by Nobel-winning economist William Nordhaus. It returns the fee’s revenues to households so that ordinary people don’t shoulder the financial burden of this giant economic shift that we’ve got to make. Businesses like Amazon and Microsoft shift to renewables, bringing the entire economy along.

A greener world would be better for us all. We have a path forward. Let’s take it.
