Make-A-Wish thanks communities for support

To the editor:

We at Make-A-Wish Northeast New York would like to acknowledge the extraordinary support we received throughout the North Country during the 2018-2019 winter season. First, thanks in part to the efforts of businesses and volunteers across Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties, our 26th annual Adopt-A-Wish holiday campaign was our most successful ever, raising more than $237,000!

Second, in Lake Placid in February, through the efforts of the Mirror Lake Inn, US Bobsled & Skeleton, US Luge, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority, the Olympic Training Center, Whiteface Mountain, and Mr. Mike’s Pizza in Lake Placid, an 8-year-old cancer patient from Miami Springs, Florida named Tiago Cusano was granted his wish to see snow for the first time and to ride in a bobsled. Thanks to the generosity of these partners, Tiago was embraced by the nation’s sliding community and introduced to the very best that the Adirondack Region has to offer.

Finally, on March 24, 2019, through the efforts of two-time Olympic medalist and Make-A-Wish NENY trustee Andrew Weibrecht, in cooperation with the Mirror Lake Inn, Whiteface Mountain and the New York Ski Educational Foundation, we introduced Make-A-Wish’s inaugural Give Back Sunday at Whiteface. Hundreds of skiers came together to help support wishes for eligible and deserving North Country Wish Kids. This effort was complemented by the Naked Turtle Bowl-A-Thon in Plattsburgh, held the same day as our ski event, and the Softball on Snow Tournament in Malone, held just three weeks earlier

The combined success of these fundraising endeavors enables us to grant wishes for all eligible children and teens with critical illnesses who live in the North Country and throughout our 15-county region.

For most charities, ensuring that there is enough money to fulfill the mission can be a challenge. Yet, for Make-A-Wish Northeast New York, having the support of our volunteers and donors in the North Country is just what we need to move forward with confidence in 2019 and for years to come!

Sincerely,

William C. Trigg, III, Ph.D.
