Bloomingdale student shines

To the editor:

On Jan. 29, my 10-year-old daughter Ashlyn Tomaszewski decided to donate 11 inches of her own hair to support the charity Children With Hair Loss. They’re a nonprofit charity that provides free, customized human hair replacements and care kits to children facing cancer treatments, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns and other medically related hair loss. This is the only organization of its kind to serve children completely free of charge, with no hidden fees, financial reporting or required appearances.

Unbeknownst to Ashlyn, by donating her hair, she is now a part of an event called the Great Cut! This event will take place in San Diego, California, on March 16. The Great Cut has partnered with Children With Hair Loss in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest hair donation in history. Their mission is to donate 200 pounds of hair from 2,000 donors and raise $200,000 to provide hair replacements for 200 children with medically related hair loss.

Not only has Ashlyn done a nice thing by donating her hair, but she is now part of a greater cause, which is to raise awareness for children with hair loss. We are so very proud of her and what she stands for. Way to go, Ashlyn!
