Thanks for helping those in need

To the editor:

The Saranac Lake Unit for the Salvation Army is proud to announce it raised $10,385.95 from the Red Kettle Campaign. This is thanks to over 50 wonderful dedicated volunteers who rang the bell at Kinney Drugs, the Saranac Lake Post Office, and Coakley Home and Hardware on very cold days. Money was also raised by counter kettles at both Hyde Fuel convenience stores, the Go Fish thrift shop, Fusion Market and McKenzie’s Grill. The person ringing the longest span of time was Shirley Hosler, ringing all day long in frigid weather with people bringing her soup. Martha Wells rang multiple times, right up to the last day, saying she knows so many people need the help from the Salvation Army.

Bell ringers got into the spirit with three dressed in snowman costumes, some singing Christmas carols, such as Kids R Us preschool class and High Peaks Youth Center, and some ringing with their dogs. The kettle drive was made possible by Maggie and Vance Mortensen, Rich Loeber and Cathy Moore.

We thank all the generous people who made a difference in the lives of those seeking emergency needs. We wish everyone a very blessed new year.

Peace,

Cathy Moore
