3.5 minutes …

To the editor:

… at the Adirondack Carousel, where you can watch transformations among children of all ages.

Now in its seventh season, the carousel features 24 animals. All are residents of the Adirondack Park, each hand-carved and painted by local artisans, and every animal named by local students (e.g., John Deer), and each animal hosts the New York state insect, the ladybug.

The benefits are inspirational:

¯ Watching an infant’s face blossom from uncertainty and strangeness to smiles about the sixth rotation (there are 12), and finally (after the ninth rotation) to wave at any other human watching them

¯ Watching grandparents (parents) in awe of their grandchild’s transformation as the grandparents fulfill their personal bucket list to ride the carousel

¯ Learning that visitors come from all over this country, almost every state including the Pacific Northwest, the southwest and mid-America as well as the northeast.

It is magical to catch the spirit of the carousel, especially during these times in need of whimsy. Come and fulfill the child in you.
