Don’t take train away from the handicapped and old

To the editor:

Why would New York state want to shoot itself in the foot and inhibit economic development by limiting rail access to our marvelous Adirondacks?

Let the advocates of rail removal pay for the lost revenue! Put up or shut up. Put your names and addresses here so we can send you the bill. Let them provide transportation through the mountains for old folks and the handicapped and youth who do not drive and cannot get up there otherwise. Or have them buy us snowmobiles and riding apparel so we can enjoy those snowmobile trails that only the rich (folks with jobs) and healthy can have. Or give us handicapped and aged our health and youth back so we can hike or cross-country ski. And explain to the promoters of the Lake Placid sports events why they have to limit their spectator draw to any potential mini-Olympics or Empire State Games by not having rail access! Get out your wallets, trails-only advocates, and pay for the lost revenue.

New York state, keep your aged and handicapped in mind when you cut us out of enjoying our home state by forcing us old crippled people to hike 100 miles in the icy cold to do it instead of letting us take the train. Remember the Disabilities Act … or put us on the trash heap of life.
