Garcia has great qualities

To the editor:

I found it difficult to condense all that I want to say about Julie Garcia in a scant 300 words. Then I recalled several lines written by Fenton Johnson in April’s issue of Harper’s Magazine. “Fate suggests submission to the circumstances of life. Destiny suggests active engagement.” The latter describes Julie.

Fate has dealt Julie many bad hands. Inner-directed, strongly believing that hard work and determination would direct her course, she persisted in getting an education. After earning a degree cum laude in social work, she decided to study law. Her first assignment was an assistant DA in the district attorney’s office in Suffolk County.

Following the death of her mother, she moved closer to family. Working in the office of the DA of Rensselaer County added wide-ranging experiences to her repertoire. After the death of her sister, who left small children, Julie moved even closer to family. She assumed the responsibility for two nieces and opened a law firm in Schroon Lake, a position she left when elected district attorney for Essex County. She served one successful term before opening an office in Westport.

Personal qualities of loyalty to friends and family, integrity, a strong work ethic, an even temperament, honesty, sense of fairness, coupled with 15 years of experience in a vast variety of cases, and experience as a district attorney make her the candidate who will best serve the people of this vast district.

I can think of no one better personally or professionally qualified to serve the people.
