Forever still means forever

To the editor:

Now that the proposed renaming of Paul Smith’s College has been resolved, I would like to personally thank you for allowing me and so many others to “air” our opinions on the proposal via the ADE editorial pages (whichever side of the issue they fell on). Your fair, balanced and factually checked coverage of this issue was a fine example of journalistic excellence! I also believe that the amount of coverage your publication kept focused on this issue all the way up to its ultimate conclusion really helped to inform the public (and perhaps Judge Ellis) on the key elements, arguments and discrepancies in the college’s argument in favor of the change.

To echo your paper’s editorial on Oct. 8, “Thank goodness,” Judge Ellis was a very wise judge who took the time needed to thoroughly study and research the issue(s) at hand, and ultimately rule against allowing the redefinition of the term “forever.”

We, the community of Paul Smith’s College (past and present) are FOREVER in your debt!

With sincere thanks,

Terry Murphy
