To the editor:

Citizen Advocates, North Star Family of Services, began doing business in Franklin County 40 years ago this past August with a small dedicated staff who believed in helping those with disabilities lead a full life. The agency has grown to be one of the largest private employers in the area and has expanded services exponentially to communities within and beyond Franklin County. This would not have happened without our Direct Support Professional staff (DSPs). They are the backbone of our organization.

This week we proudly celebrate our DSPs and their commitment to helping others live and contribute to their communities. Their work often goes unnoticed by others, but it is essential to those who depend on their help in their day to day activities. Our DSPs provide a wide array of support services to individuals with varying disabilities. From daily physical care, learning social skills, participating in their communities to developing job skills, our DSPs are there to support individuals to maximize their independence and self-worth. Congratulations and thank you to all of our DSPs for your ongoing dedication.
