Correction: wrong Branch of the family
To parents who share this concern, please voice your opinion with the superintendent’s office. The decision to reduce the number of kindergarten teachers in our district does not serve our best interests nor those of our children.
Sincerely,
Audrey Schwartzberg

Railroad must be retained
To the editor:
I am on the board of the Adirondack Carousel and a native of Saranac Lake. Because of both connections, I am very concerned with the plans for the Adirondack railroad. The presence of the railroad in Saranac Lake is historically and currently most important. It has been a frequent friend, allowing the visitors from Lake Placid the opportunity to ride the carousel and introduce them to the downtown area of Saranac Lake. It is always visible to anyone in the business district that the train has arrived. The streets are busy with interested shoppers, diners and museum visitors. The owners of the Twin Crystal Rock Shop know when the train is in – so are the shoppers.
Many features of the railroad between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake include the historic train ride, Pendragon acts and wine and cheese trains. The Halloween train is especially popular with riders dressed in costume. Their stop at the carousel makes for a cheerful venue for adults and children.
It is most important that this popular gateway to Saranac Lake not be abandoned. It is here, it is working, and we need to continue to hear that whistle echoing from the mountains. Please do not take a step backward when we have so much to gain from our rails.

Correction: wrong Branch of the family
To the editor:
In our recent letter thanking the talented and industrious people of our town who helped to make our 50th-year reunion a huge success, we made a terrible error.
The musician who played for our two nights of dancing at the Moose hall was BERNIE Branch, whom we erroneously identified as his brother Bumper.
Bernie played tirelessly, as we expected. He is a great friend and a wonderful musician.
Please print this correction with our sincere apologies. We owe BERNIE BRANCH that much … and so much more.
Sincerely,
