Vacation Photo Contest is coming

FIRST PLACE IN 2019 VACATION PHOTO CONTEST: Grace Duffy, a seventh-grader at Petrova Middle School who lives in Lake Clear, traveled through Singapore, Malaysia, India and United Arab Emirates over spring break. This picture was taken in Dubai at the top of the Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world.

Spring break is still more than a month-and-a-half away, but we want to give you a heads-up about the Vacation Photo Contest.

For those who are new to this, it’s simple: People take pictures of themselves on vacation, posing with their trusty copy of the Enterprise. Then we run those photos in the paper over the course of several weeks — but first our staff votes on the best three. Those people get prime display, bragging rights and prizes. We cover several months of their Enterprise subscription: three months for third place, six months for second and one year for first.

It’s been an annual Enterprise tradition since the early 1990s, and a favorite among local residents.

If you’ve already taken your Enterprise vacation photo since last spring, you can submit it any time in the next two months.

If you are gearing up to leave town for spring break, be sure you pack an issue of the Enterprise in your luggage, along with a camera.

Then put that paper to good use. At some fun moment in your travels, have a picture taken of you displaying it. Make sure it’s in an interesting setting so viewers can tell you really went somewhere. Get creative; have fun with it. Our staff will judge based on originality, locale and photo quality.

We’ll print the winning three photos on Saturday, May 16. Then we’ll print all the other submissions in the weeks that follow in May and June — so it’s no big deal if you don’t win.

Here are the guidelines:

¯ The deadline for us to receive photo entries will be Monday, May 4. That gives you two weeks after spring break ends.

¯ We ask that each household submit no more than one photo.

¯ If your photos are digital, please email them to sports@adirondackdailyenterprise.com. Keep in mind that we can’t print low-resolution photos, so please send them as big as they will go. Before you start shooting, it’s a good idea to make sure your camera is set to take large photos.

¯ If you only have your photo in a hard copy, either drop it off at our office (54 Broadway, Saranac Lake) or mail it to Vacation Photo Contest, Adirondack Daily Enterprise, P.O. Box 318, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. If you want your hard copy returned, please say so in writing and include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your entry; we will mail it back to you when we’re done.

¯ Include your name, phone number, email address and a caption — a brief description of who and what are in the photo, where they are, and the name and hometown of any person pictured.

We’ll also post each week’s photos on our website under the North Country Living category. Access it by clicking “Life” on the menu across the top of our website.

We hope all you Adirondack friends and neighbors have wonderful vacations. We are aching to see where you went.
