For weeks, small forests of signs promoting political candidates have demonstrated the vigor of our system of government.

Now they are almost all gone, as they should be.

Some candidates and their supporters started picking up their signs immediately after Tuesday’s election. It is pleasing to note that the vast majority of those running for office in our area understand their responsibility in that regard.

So do their supporters, and for that we are grateful.

As is the case after any election, however, a few of the signs will remain visible for weeks, even months. At this point, they are nothing more than litter. We hope they are removed soon. No one likes a litterbug.
