Winter Carnival celebrations

1957 — Queen Fran Allison and King Don McNeill of the “Don McNeill Breakfast Club” appear at the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival in 1957. The daily ABC show ran from 1933 to 1968 and was broadcast from the Pontiac Theater in Saranac Lake for an entire week. There were seven members of King Don’s radio “gang,” who were all part of the show. The format of the hour-long show included jokes, poems, music and prayer separated into four 15-minute segments, each beginning with a “Call to Breakfast.”
1957 — A crowd estimated at 700 people greets the “Don McNeill Breakfast Club” radio stars at the Saranac Lake railroad station on Depot Street.
