Image of the Week

This week marks 78 years since the death of Dr. Edward R. Baldwin. Baldwin came to Saranac Lake for treatment after diagnosing his own case of tuberculosis with a microscope. His skills impressed Dr. Trudeau, who hired him to work in the Saranac Laboratory. Baldwin eventually took over as Director of the Laboratory, and became Trudeau’s close friend and personal doctor. After Trudeau’s death, Baldwin established the Trudeau School of Tuberculosis to train doctors in the latest methods of TB diagnosis and treatment. Baldwin lived in Saranac Lake until his death on May 6, 1947. (Photo provided — Historic Saranac Lake Collection. Gift of Barbara Baldwin Knapp.)
