Image of the Week

Oct. 12 marks National Farmer’s Day. Did you know that there were many farms around Saranac Lake in the 1900s? The majority of them were dairy farms, but some had other livestock and crops. This farm was located on the Harrietstown Road, and was owned by Canadian Senator Wilfrid McDougald, who also owned Northbrook Lodge. We have not confirmed the identity of the farmer pictured, but the farm was managed for McDougald by John Roy. (Photo provided — Historic Saranac Lake Collection, 2020.6.1.3.
