Image of the Week, from Historic Saranac Lake

96 years ago this coming Sunday, President Calvin Coolidge and his wife Grace left what was a known as the “Summer White House” to return to Washington, D.C. The Coolidges had arrived at White Pine Camp on Osgood Pond on July 7, 1926, to spend a summer in the Adirondacks. They attended the First Presbyterian Church of Saranac Lake while here, and crowds gathered to greet the president and first lady wherever they went. This photograph shows them leaving the Presbyterian Church one Sunday morning. Prints and photo postcards of their public outings during the summer were sold to locals and tourists alike.
