Friendly advice from a partial staycationer

Someone in the family wants year-round winter.  (Provided photo — Diane Chase)

I want to say I am not jealous of the people going on unforgettable holidays. We have been stuck at home for far too long. If all of us could check out for a few weeks, I’m sure we would. Sometimes we can’t, and that is okay as well. I believe we can approach the holiday photo posting on some middle ground. Perhaps lay down a few ground rules, so to say.

I am not asking people to withhold holiday photos or suppress their rights to let us live vicariously through their travel logs. I, too, have an exotic trip to the recycling center planned. I will gladly share my adventures sorting my #2 plastics. Just message me if you need any tips.

No one has to justify or downplay going on holiday. If I can’t explore different places, I’m glad someone else has a chance. Here are just a few ideas for the spring break photo extravaganza.

Suggestion #1: If you are stuck in traffic, your flight is delayed, or for some reason, you face a challenge getting to your destination, please post a photo of the blue sky. We are experiencing the sixth round of winter here. (It’s the Adirondack time when spring is attempting to break through, but winter is a bully and snows on all happy thoughts, again.) Safe travels.

Suggestion #2: Please don’t humblebrag how you gave up your seat or a special meal for the crying child, the family of 25, or military personnel. I gave up my dinner as well if giving up means I snacked in front of an empty fridge because no one else ran errands. I never doubted your kindness.

Suggestion #3: Please don’t complain about your airline/truck stop food. What you ate traveling was probably equal to what I ate directly from a bag watching the snowfall for the 365th day of winter.

Suggestion 4: Post photos that make you happy so we can all be pleased with you. Post photos of your food, beach, and family. Share your adventures. Take time to relax, read a book, or walk somewhere new. Please come back rejuvenated and revived. You deserve an incredible experience.

Safe travels to everyone, whether home or abroad. If you want to bring a souvenir, please make it sunshine and warm weather.
