Yes! There will be a Winter Carnival Book Sale. Roy Rosenbarker has taken a leadership role, and is already helping to sort books. Look for the sale on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Current Events Cafe

Coffee and tea are available for those looking for congenial conversation about local, national and world events. This group will gather in the Dickert Room on Jan. 14, 21 and 28 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. During the Winter Carnival Book Sale, February 4 and 11, the Cafe will be held in the Children’s Room.

Library Lunch Series

On Thursday, Jan. 17, Beatrice Schachenmayr will present “Frame Your Story: A Photography Project with Refugee Youth in Istanbul and Berlin.” Beatrice seeks to empower refugee youth to share their stories and feelings with the rest of the world, thereby providing them with basic skills they need to heal and grow. All presentations of the Library Lunch Series are free and open to the public. They begin at noon. Bring soup or a sandwich if you like. Desserts and beverages will served, compliments of the wonderful bakers on the Refreshment Committee.

In Appreciation

A special thank-you goes out to the homeschooled children who participated in a November Reading Challenge. They read 206 books, and donated in excess of $400 to the Saranac Lake, Peru and Willsboro libraries.

Adirondack Research Room News

Curator Michele Tucker reports that a large number of duplicates from the Adirondack Room will be for sale at the Winter Book Sale. Look for Adirondack books in the Dickert Room. Of special interest are “Adirondack Adventures: Adventures in the Wilderness or Camp-Life in the Adirondacks” by W.H.H Murray, 1869; “The Old Guide’s Story of the Northern Adirondacks” by Charles E. Merrill, 1973; and “History of Clinton and Franklin Counties” by Duane Hamilton Hurd, 1978 edition.

“12 Angry Men” starring Henry Fonda will be shown in the Cantwell Room at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29. There is no admission fee.
