Sharon Barry
Sharon E. Barry, nee McCormick, age 80 of Saranac Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long battle with dementia on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, which she endured with dignity and grace.
Sharon owned and operated DJ’s Rustic Restaurant for many years, cooking alongside her daughter. She was beloved by her customers for her cooking, kindness, warmth, humor and wit. She showed all who came through those doors. “Mama always said to clean your plate.”
Sharon was born on May 9, 1945, the daughter of the late Joe “Shorty” McCormick and Rose Rule McCormick.
She is one of 12 children, and now the McCormick dozen is complete. She is predeceased by Helen, Vivian, Sonny, Kathleen, Mary, John D, Elieen, Joyce (Ducky), Richard, Patrick and Donna.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Richard of Saranac Lake, daughter Lauralee Kunath (Ken) of Saranac Lake, John of Central Islip and Jim (Bonnie) of Saranac Lake. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, Nikki, Amanda Rose, John, Jackie, Josh, Alex, Matthew and Elizabeth. 9 great grandchildren, Darrin, Cayden, Charlotte Rose, Aline Rose, Ami, Tidus, Eliza Rose, Xander and Chloe. Two-step grandchildren, Judd Krasher and Garrett Krasher. 2 step great-grandchildren, Peyton and Noah.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating.
