Robert ‘Bob’ K. Hall

With great sadness we announce the death of Robert “Bob” K. Hall on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025 at the age of 82. He was born on Sept. 29, 1943 in Canton, to Kenneth D. and Ola C. (Fargo) Hall.

His childhood home was 17 Crescent St., Canton. He graduated from Canton Central High School in 1961. During his high school years he lettered in football, basketball and track. He played the saxophone in the high school band and he was a member of the “Thespians” Drama Club. He attended Potsdam State University and graduated in 1967 earning a degree in secondary education with a concentration in history.

Bob was first employed by the St. Regis Falls High School where he taught social studies and English from 1966 to 1969. He then moved the family to Moravia, New York, where he taught high school social studies and English at the Moravia Central School for the 1970 school year.

Bob’s next employment opportunity came from the NY State Department of Labor in Malone. He initially worked in the unemployment insurance division as a UI Claims Examiner. He rose to the position of community services manager of the Malone and Saranac Lake offices. As a result of his dedication, he received the “Harold Kasper Award” for achievement. Bob joyfully retired on Thanksgiving Day 1996.

He married Ellen E. Unwin on Aug. 13, 1966 at St. Helen’s Church in Chasm Falls. They had a full life together raising their two children, enjoying being grandparents and participating in many community organizations.

Bob is survived by his wife Ellen; his children Kathleen V. Hall and Jason B. Hall; his grandson Colby R. Hall; his sisters Kay (William) Tambs of Pennellville, New York and Cynthia (Rod) Lavigne of Colton, New York; his brother Mark Hall and wife, Sally, of Gaylord, Michigan; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Vawn Hall on Dec. 25, 1965.

Bob enjoyed being outdoors. He enjoyed target shooting, hunting, swimming and canoeing. He spent many weekends practicing, teaching and sharing these skills with Ellen, Kathy, Jason, and in later years with his grandson Colby. He was certified as a lifeguard in high school and later worked as the waterfront director for the Boy Scouts at Camp Bedford.

Bob was community oriented and was involved with many local organizations. He was a Life Member of the Malone Lodge of Elks 1303, and had the distinction of serving as chaplain during his early membership years. He was a longstanding member of the Owl Mountain Hunting Club and the NRA. He also enjoyed coaching youth baseball for Amvets T-Ball, Amvets Little League, Moose League and Lions Senior League. He was a member of the board of directors for Malone Minor Hockey and was an assistant coach for many minor tockey teams. He served as a member and chairman of the village of Malone Zoning Appeals Board. Bob was a bowler in the Elks Club League, and the Pioneer and Ball & Chain Leagues.

Bob was registered as an organ donor. Even after all his medical sufferings, he was still able to fulfill that wish.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. concluding with a prayer service at the St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home in Malone on Friday, Jan. 9.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Malone Rescue, Monroe Rescue, Amvets’ Baseball Little League or Minor Hockey Association.
