Edwin L. Dyer

Edwin L. Dyer, 85, of River Road, Bloomingdale, died on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Bath, New York on Dec. 19, 1939, he was the son of Louis and Mabel (King) Dyer.

Ed grew up in Painted Post, graduating from Painted Post High School in 1958. He entered the United States Army on April 17, 1959, spending 33 months in Germany. He was discharged from the Army on July 6, 1962. Upon leaving the Army, he joined the City of Corning Police Department and served there until he became a member of the New York State Police on Nov. 11, 1965. He spent his entire career in the Adirondacks, retiring on June 1, 1995 as an investigator for the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. He also received a lifetime membership from the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club, where he served as a past vice president and member of the Board of Directors.

Ed also loved hunting and especially fishing with his wife Laura. He also loved his labrador retrievers and has said that, when he dies, he wants to go wherever his dogs are.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Laura Ann Clark Dyer, whom he married Dec. 20, 1986; one daughter, Kathleen Dyer Nogales and her husband Rocky of Saranac Lake, and one son, Christopher Dyer and his wife Ann of Saranac Lake; as well as one grandson, three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. At Ed’s request, there will be no calling hours.
