Jonathan ‘Jon’ Fust

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing on November 13, 2025 of Jonathan “Jon” Richard Fust in Ray Brook at the age of 79.

Jon was born April 22, 1946 in Sidney, New York, the son of Paul and Marian (Kocich) Fust. He graduated from Sidney High School. After graduation, he went to work briefly for Scintilla and then went into the trucking business with his brother Val. They worked in the trucking business for three years in New Jersey before selling the trucks and embarking on another business.

Jon and his brother bought a marina in Saranac Lake in 1972 which they named Swiss Marine after their father’s country of birth. Jon has run the marine until his passing with his son Christopher. Jon enjoyed many activities and was always on the go. He bought a Cessna airplane and learned to fly, loved his Jeeping days, enjoyed fishing and, of course, boating and waterskiing. Later on, he bought his first Harley Davison motorcycle and a few others after that. He enjoyed his motorcycle rallies in Laconia, New Hampshire along with his motorcycle ride in Acadia National Park in Maine. Jon especially loved the family homestead, Lone Oak Farm on Sheep Pen Road in Unadilla, NY. He made trips there as often as possible. In the fall he especially loved getting on his tractor and mowing the fields.

Survivors include his wife Virginia (Learn) whom he married Oct. 26, 1968; his son Christopher and his fiancee Traci of Saranac Lake; and two grandsons, Colin and Chance of Saranac Lake. He also left behind his dear, dear friend Jim Cochran of Saranac Lake. He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers Val and Robert Fust.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. At Jon’s request, there will be no viewing hours. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jon to High Peaks Hospice. Family and friends can also share their condolences and memories at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
