Stephen Lammann

Stephen Lammann of Lake Placid, age 79, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025 at Elderwood of Uihlein after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.

He was born Sept. 10, 1946 in Linz, Austria and immigrated to the U.S. in 1951 where he settled in Avon-By-The-Sea, New Jersey with his parents.

From a young age, he fell in love with hockey and played throughout grade school and high school. He went on to receive his bachelors degree from Memphis University, where he continued to play hockey. He made it through the final round of try outs for the New Jersey Devils, but was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army.

He served from 1970 to 1972, where he was stationed in Germany and played with the Zweibrucken Warriors League. After serving, he returned to New Jersey.

He continued to play hockey for the semi-pro league the New Jersey Brewers from 1973 to 1974. He moved to the Adirondacks with his wife Karen in 1977 before the Olympics.

He worked as an electrician and continued to play hockey for the local league The Roamers. In 1985, he coached the high school hockey team.

His great passions were hockey, fishing and cracking jokes. His sense of humor and his smile will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen Lammann of Lake Placid, and his daughters Nicole Lammann of Lake Placid and Amelia Monks of Boulder, Colorado.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Oct. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. with an American Legion Prayer Service at 2:45 p.m. at the M. B. Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid. Burial with military honors will follow at North Elba Cemetery, Old Military Road, Lake Placid.
