Leonard Flath

Leonard Flath, 85, of Lansingburgh, New York, died on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025 of natural causes.

He was born in Redwood, New York, town of Alexandria, Jefferson County, on Feb. 9, 1940 to Harold and Laura (Zimmer) Flath and attended local schools. He was employed on the family farm and later received degrees from Oneonta and Potsdam State Universities. He taught at Paul Smith’s College and later worked in Lake Placid and Saranac Lake as a kitchen designer.

He retired in 1998, relocated to Lansingburgh from Saranac Lake in 2000 and was a member of Gilead Lutheran Church, Brunswick, where he sang in the choir. He loved to travel, especially to Germany to discover his family’s ancestral roots as he continued to build out his genealogy.

A marriage to the former Patricia Ulbrich of Johnson City ended in divorce.

Survivors include son Philip and his wife Alana (Gonzalez) Flath and granddaughter Gabrielle Flath of Plymouth, Massachusetts; daughter Heid Klaus and grandson Taylor Klaus; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his two sisters Marian Zimmer and Ruth Barber.

There are no calling hours as his wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
