Frederick N. Reid

Frederick N. Reid of Lake Placid, 92, passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, surrounded by his family and under the care of High Peaks Hospice.

Frederick was born in Lake Placid on Jan. 31, 1933 to Isabella and Gerald Reid. He graduated from Lake Placid Central School in 1953. He was married to Betty Jane Jacques on Aug. 10, 1953 at the Adirondack Community Church. Fred worked at the Palace Theater for 2 years as a projectionist and then for the Grand Union Company for around 35 years as a grocery manager before his retirement in 1996 at age 62.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, his wife Betty Jane, his son Ronald Charles “Rope” (Melissa), two aunts, Alice Reid and Mazie Telford, daughter-in-law Cindie Reid (David), granddaughter Stephanie Jane-Marie Reid, (David and Cindie) and son-in-law Michael Quinn (Beth). Frederick is survived by two sons, David of Lake Mary, Florida and Mark and his wife Diane of Milford, Pennsylvania, and daughter Elizabeth Ann of Saranac Lake. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law Melissa Strack Reid (Ron) of Lake Placid. Fred was blessed with nine grandchildren: Corey (April) of AuSable, RJ (Shelby) of Lake Placid, Morgan (Robert) of Fort Carson, Colorada, Emilie Reid (David and Cindie) of Lake Mary, Florida, Adam Reid (Mark and Diane) of Milford, Pennsylvania, Nicholas, Macayla and Gabrielle of Saranac Lake, and Elijah of New York, New York. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Hannah (Corey) Reid of Peru and Ronica Vanessa Terrell (Morgan and Robert) of Fort Carson, Colorado. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce Jacques (Donald Jr.) of Lake Placid, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Frederick served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 as a 1505 52nd ORD AMMO CO. Medals and badges include: Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Adirondack Community Church or the charity of your choice in his memory.

Calling hours will be held at M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by an American Legion Service at 6 p.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
