Josef Karl ‘Sepp’ Eigenmann

Josef Karl “Sepp” Eigenmann, 83, of Franks Lane, Lake Placid, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025 at his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1941 to Berta (Eisenring) and Karl Eigenmann in Wildhaus, Switzerland, along with his younger brother Guido.
At the age of 15, he went to Uster to apprentice as a tool and die maker at Zelweger, where he lived for four years. After he served his full mandatory term in the Swiss Army, he emigrated to New York City at the age of 21. There, he sold machinery and on winter weekends he was a ski instructor on ski buses along the east coast.
While in New York City, he met Frances Cooper and moved to Plattsburgh to raise their two daughters, Andrea and Daniela. Then the family spent five years near Zurich, Switzerland, where he became a sales manager for Amacoil, a coil winding machine manufacturer.
The family moved back to the United States, to New Rochelle, New York, where Sepp continued to sell Amacoil machinery. Then, an amicable divorce saw Sepp move to Lake Placid in 1982. He continued to travel extensively, flying out of Albany, where with serendipity, he met Tina (Brodley), whom he married in 1984.
During their early years, they lived in Clifton Park, working at their respective careers, Sepp having transitioned to computer programming and consulting.
In 1992, they followed their dreams to move to Lake Placid permanently, where he was one of the longest running ski instructors at Whiteface Mountain. He also worked for the Lake Placid Club as an integral member of the golf club staff.
Sepp and Tina were mates and best friends for 41 years. They enjoyed skiing together, entertaining and volunteering for ORDA activities. Sepp greatly enjoyed spending time with Andrea’s children, Emma, Nicholas and Liam. His greatest legacy is their love of skiing and proficiency at it.
Tina and his family have been heart warmed by all the outpouring of love and admiration for Sepp from the community.
