Reta Larabie

Reta Juliette Larabie (nee Young), 74, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, in her hometown of Tupper Lake.

Born on Jan. 30, 1951, in Tupper Lake, Reta spent her life rooted in the community that shaped her. She was the daughter of Jeanne and George Young and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She married David Larabie on April 20, 1968. Over the years, she remained deeply connected to her roots, cherishing the bonds formed in her early years.

Reta was a devoted mother to her three children: Ruth Larabie (Jason Savard), Kim Merkel (Jason Merkel) and David Larabie (Brenda Larabie). Her love for her family extended across generations — she was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren. Her warmth also touched the lives of numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her former husband David Larabie; her parents Jeanne and George Young; her sisters Ruth Young, Kate LaPlante, Rena Lamora, and Janice Derosia; and also her brother George Young Jr. Their memories remained close to Reta’s heart throughout her life.

Reta will be remembered as a loving and caring grandmother who always placed the well-being of her family above all else. Her generosity left a lasting impression on those around her — a legacy of kindness that will continue through the lives she touched. Reta’s favorite pastime was spent rummage salering with her sisters.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
