Mary Fredenburgh

Mary Margaret Fredenburgh, age 93 of Crestview, Florida and formerly of Malone, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 after a long battle with dementia/Alzheimer’s. Frary Funeral Home Malone is entrusted with the services. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service to follow at the funeral home with Pastor Howard Cain officiating. Burial will take place immediately following at the Merrillsville Cemetery in Loon Lake.

Mary was born on January 8, 1932 in Dannemora to the late Karl and Charlotte (Kelsea) Whipple. She graduated from Plattsburgh High School. Mary married Warren “Ward” Fredenburgh in 1953 at the Dannemora United Methodist Church. Ward passed away on October 14, 2011.

In 1977, Mary bought a small gift shop in Saranac Lake called the Gift Corner. Mary took this opportunity and ran with it. Over the next five years, her business grew so much that it was now too small for her shop. Then in 1982 she and a friend opened a new shop with two businesses under one roof, the Yum Yum Tree and the Gift Corner. This was a successful business for many, many years. Mary also was elected town supervisor for the town of Franklin, the first woman in Franklin County. After retirement, she and Ward moved to Malone where she enjoyed her camp on Indian Lake and enjoyed the company of many friends, and quickly joined a group called the Ladies of the Lake in Mt. View. Mary loved spending as much time as possible with her family, watching birds, gardening, shopping, decorating and travel.

Mary leaves behind her two daughters, Gayle (Raymond Baker) Fredenburgh of Crestview and Lynn Fredenburgh of Malone; grandchildren Matthew Love, Kelli Love-Robinson, Beth and Kevin Moorhead; great-grandchildren AJ and Maia, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Donna Moorhead, and two brothers, David and Donald Whipple.

Mary will be missed by all that she touched over the years, even Sonny and Nino, her comfort cats to the end. Online condolences can be shared with Mary’s family at www.fraryfuneralhome.com.
