James Francis Faucher

James Francis Faucher, 76, of Saranac Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024.

The son of John and Loraine Faucher, James is survived by his sister, Jane Frary, and his brother, John Faucher. He leaves behind his three children, Sean Faucher, Kate Burnell, and James Faucher II, as well as his beloved grandchildren.

James dedicated 38 years of his life to teaching American history and government at Lake Placid High School, where he worked tirelessly to educate generations of students. Jim was also a strong advocate for his colleagues. He held leadership roles in the teachers’ union, advocating for better pay and working conditions for teachers.

James’s passion for working with young people extended beyond the classroom. As a coach, he guided football and baseball teams for many years, earning multiple trips to the state championships and leading his baseball team to a state title. Later in life, he brought his coaching expertise to the Can/Am hockey program, mentoring countless players.

Outside of education, James enjoyed capturing meaningful moments as a wedding photographer and spreading joy at the North Pole, where he helped countless children experience the magic of Christmas. In his later years, James enjoyed traveling across the United States to visit his children and grandchildren, who brought him great pride.

Friends and family knew James as clever, knowledgeable and determined. Though his presence will be missed, his legacy lives on in the lives of those he inspired.

A celebration of Jim’s life will take place this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to heart.org.
