Brian LaMay

Brian H. LaMay, age 57, of Saranac Lake, died unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Albany Medical Center.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on August 15, 1967, he was the son of George and Kathleen (Meehan) LaMay.

Brian recently married his longtime companion Terri J. Welch on Saturday, August 10, 2024 in Ellenburg Depot. Brian and Terri had just returned home from their amazing honeymoon in the Florida Keys when he unexpectedly took ill. While in Florida they really enjoyed their time together jet skiing, sailing, touring the national park and golf carting around Key West.

Brian was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake where he attended and graduated from the Saranac Lake High School. Brian was active in baseball, hockey and football, from youth sports up through high school. Brian has an Associate Degree from North Country Community College. Following school, he was employed as a New York Corrections Officer for over 25 years until his retirement in 2022. Over the years he worked at various correctional facilities including Mohawk and Adirondack Correctional in Ray Brook. Brian was a passionate follower of the Yankees, Giants and Rangers, taking the good and the bad from those teams. Brian golfed for many years, always seeking out new courses for the challenge. He enjoyed fishing his entire life, often at the old LaMay/Sawyer haunts in the Paul Smiths / Keese’s Mills area. He was looking forward to exploring the recently completed Adirondack Rail Trail. Following retirement, Brian and Terri loved spending their summers camping in Ellenburg Depot. He met many new dear friends there, playing poker, sitting by the pool, enjoying the outdoor patio and touring the campground in his N.Y. Giants colored golf cart. He is now reunited with his beloved dog Parker.

He is survived by his wife Terri of Saranac Lake, three sons Brandon, Jordan and Cameron all of Connecticut, one brother Ned LaMay of Monroe and his stepfather Matthew Smart of Saranac Lake. He was preceded in death by his father George LaMay and mother Kathleen Smart.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Friends wishing to remember Brian LaMay may make memorial contributions to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their condolences and memories online at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
