Kathy J. Hubbard
Kathy Joyce Hubbard, 65, a beacon of warmth and wisdom, passed away peacefully at her home on Aug. 15, 2024.
Born on Jan. 20, 1959, in Malone, she was the oldest daughter of the late Douglas and Mable (Jenkins) Richards.
Kathy married the love of her life, Wayne A. Hubbard, on June 22, 1979, sharing a blessed union for 45 years. She worked as a purchasing agent at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for over 20 years until she moved to North Bangor, where she became a beloved substitute teacher in the Brushton-Moira School District.
Family meant everything to Kathy. She was a kind, loving, and deeply caring person, a beautiful and devoted wife, a wonderful and loving mother, and an extraordinary “Grammy.” Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Kathy had a special way about her that just made a person feel truly loved and cherished, as well as an unexplainable ability to play horses, “do faces” or talk on the phone for hours with her grandchildren. She read the best stories. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting blankets for the special people in her life, gardening, picking berries, canning the fruits of her garden and making “Grammy Jam.” She felt most at home in the berry bushes. She also loved animals, especially her cats. Kathy was always ready to help and if someone needed to be taken care of, she was by their side. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by many. Kathy remained courageous and resilient during her battle with cancer.
Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne, two loving sons, Jason Hubbard and his wife Jenny of Saranac Lake, NY, and Michael Hubbard of Saranac Lake, and a daughter-in-law Eva McCauley of Goochland, VA. Kathy has four grandchildren: Logan Durett, Madison Hubbard, Emma Hubbard and Layla Hubbard who adored their Grammy. She also leaves behind her siblings: Karen Salls, Pamela Johnson, Steven Richards, and Lisa Wheeler, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Victor and Bruce Richards.
In honor of Kathy’s life, a visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, where family and friends can gather to pay their respects and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice of the North Country, 3909 state Route 11, Malone, NY 12953.
Kathy’s positive approach to life’s challenges inspired each of us. She will forever be remembered for her warmth, kindness, gentleness, and unwavering love for her family. Her everyday smile, her laugh, and the way she deeply cherished those around her will never be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
