Shirley M. (Cavill) Willette

Born Feb. 9, 1935, she lived in her hometown of Cardiff, Wales, with her younger sister Rita and parents, Frederick and Grace Cavill. She married SMSgt Victor A. Willette of Saranac Lake, New York, on April 23, 1960, in Leicester, England. They were married 42 years until Victor passed away in 2002.

Shirley was a devout Catholic, and upon moving to Saranac Lake in 1974, she became an active member of St. Bernard’s Church. Her dedication to her faith community was demonstrated through her service. She was a volunteer at the church office, a teacher’s aide, a devoted Sunday school teacher, and a long-standing member of the Catholic Daughters. She was a talented seamstress and artisan; she enjoyed craft shows and making gifts for her grandchildren.

Victor and Shirley lived in Saranac Lake until 2000, when they moved to Florida to be near their children and grandchildren. After Victor’s passing, Shirley returned to Saranac Lake before moving back to Mt. Dora, Florida, permanently in 2012.

Shirley is remembered with love by her children (Linda, Phillip, Anwyn, and Vincent), grandchildren (Victoria, Thomas, Brenna, Katherine, Garret, Rowan, and Elise) and great-grandchild (Addison).

She was predeceased by her husband, Victor; and son, Timothy.

There will be a graveside service at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in the summer of 2024 when the family is able to travel to the Adirondacks.
