Margaret Ann Carpenter

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Carpenter, 97, of the Alice Center, Malone, and formerly of Rainbow Lake, passed away on April 9, 2024, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

Born on Sept. 11, 1926, in Hamburg, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Martin and Mary (Tillison) Van Strander.

She married her lifelong love, Wilbur Austin “Carp” Carpenter Jr., on Aug. 25, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsburgh.

Margaret grew up in Hamburg and graduated in March 1946 as a member of the U.S. Nurse Corps in the first nursing class in Plattsburgh State Teachers College. She was a nurse at various hospitals throughout New York state. Upon retirement, Margaret and her family settled in Rainbow Lake.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Mary (David) Henry of Terra Ceia, Florida; son Wilbur (Mary Anne) Carpenter III of Perkasie, Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law Paula (Stephen) Carpenter of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son-in-law John (Leslie) Kolodziey of Rainbow Lake; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband Wilbur; sons Derick, Stephen and Craig; and daughters Leslie and Amy Jo.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.

At Margaret’s request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
