June M. Stringer-Sherburne

June Margaret Stringer-Sherburne, 94, of Saranac Lake, Potsdam and Parishville, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter-in-law and grandson on March 6, 2024 surrounded by family.

She was born on Dec. 29, 1929 in Plattsburgh to Edmund and Edith (Bertrand) Lavarnway. She was a 1948 graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone. On April 14, 1951, she married Robert B. Stringer at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. They were blessed with five children. He sadly predeceased her on June 12, 1976. June later married Dale R. “Bud” Sherburne of Potsdam on Aug. 22, 1981. Bud predeceased her only 40 days ago on Jan. 26.

June worked several jobs while living in Saranac Lake, including the New York Telephone Company, American Management Association and the Lake Placid Central School District. They moved to Potsdam where she worked for the Potsdam Central School District until her retirement in 1987. She was active in the Saranac Lake Women’s Bowling Association, Women’s Softball League and coached Patty League in Saranac Lake.

June is survived by her daughters, Peggy J. Dora and her husband, Richard of Bloomingdale; Linda Spellman and her husband, Arthur of South Burlington, Vermont; and Nancy Whitson and her husband, David of Vermontville; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Stringer of Saranac Lake; her stepson, Daniel Sherburne (Laura Callaghan) of North Carolina; her stepdaughter, Heidi Sherburne of Potsdam; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; her twin sister, Jean Morgan McDonough of Duanesburg; her brother, Robert Lavarnway of Buskirk; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, June was predeceased by two sons, Richard Stringer in August 2017 and Lawrence Stringer in March 2008; a sister, Marion Lavarnway; and a brother, Lawrence Lavarnway.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where calling hours for her and Bud will be held on May 2, 2024. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held May 3, 2024, at times to be announced. Burial will be held privately in Bayside Cemetery and an additional graveside service being held at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Saranac Lake at a time to be announced in May.
