Richard (Dick) F. Lamb

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Richard (Dick) Frederick Lamb, 80, of Chazy, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in St. Armand.

Richard was born in Oneida, New York on June 5, 1943. The son of Herbert and Margaret (Palmer) Lamb. He grew up in Pleasant Valley and graduated from Arlington High School in 1961. He attended college at Buffalo State University then served in the U.S. Army as a clerk during the Vietnam War. He then worked at the Greene County Planning Department in the Catskills before attending Chicago State University, where he obtained a PhD in Geography. Richard worked at West Virginia College, Geneseo College, and finally at Plattsburgh State University in the Environmental Studies department, where he taught for over 30 years. He also worked as a consultant for many town planning boards during his time at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Richard married the former Sarah W.G. Wheeler in 1974. They settled in Champlain where they enjoyed family life and restoring their old farm house.

Richard loved outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, biking and gardening. He also liked hockey games, betting at the Saratoga Racetrack and attending historical tours of the region. Most of all, Richad was known to enjoy raising his children and watching them play sports in Chazy, spending time with his cats and playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughter, Rachel Lamb (Dan Gorgas) of St. Armand; his son, Darrell Lamb of Plattsburgh; grandchildren Everett and Arlo Gorgas; brother, Galen (Carole) Rueckwald of Hudson, and sister, Karen (Paul) Godfrey of North Chatham. He is predeceased by his wife of 34 years, Sarah Lamb, and his parents.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983. At Richard’s request there will be no calling hours, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the Spring at the Riverview Cemetery in Chazy.
