Richard J. Wright
Richard J. “Dick” Wright, age 86, of Saranac Lake, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2023 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on May 1, 1937, he was the son of Kenneth and Vida (Winch) Wright. Richard, married Susanne Burman on Saturday, Nov. 7, 1959 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. She predeceased him on March 4, 2023.
Dick was employed at the American Management Association in Saranac Lake for over 40 years until his retirement. He had also worked at the Saranac Lake News for many years. When asked if he was a lifetime resident of the Saranac Lake area, Dick would always proudly answer “so far,” now that his journey has ended on this Earth, he can answer “yes.”
Dick was a lifetime member of the Saranac Lake Elks Lodge BPOE 1508 where he held every chair including serving four times as the Exalted Ruler. He also coached Little League Baseball for many years and was an avid bowler. Dick and Susanne loved to spend time with family and they especially loved to travel. They traveled extensively together in their camper across the United States, visiting 47 states. Later in life they spent their winters together in Texas up until 2020.
He is survived by three sons Robert (Michelle) Wright of Rainbow Lake, Allan (Tammy) Wright of Saranac Lake and Steven (Kathleen) Wright of Waterloo, eight grandchildren, Kenneth (Chelsi) Wright, Nicole (Barry) Sears, Thomas (SaraBeth Demers) Wright, David (Laura)Wright, Andrew (Kelly) Wright and Cody (Erica Murffyn) Lucas and Lucy Wright, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Kenneth Noble and Donald Arthur Wright.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023. An Elks prayer service will take place at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023 at St. Bernard’s Church, with Rev. Martin Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
