Charles P. Baker, Jr.

Charles P. Baker, Jr., 93, of Tupper Lake, passed away on Nov. 22, 2023 at Adirondack Medical Center after a short illness, surrounded by family.

Calling hours will be at the Frary Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave., Tupper Lake, NY on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. At 11 a.m. there will be a ceremony by the Pilgrims of the Moose, followed by Mass of Catholic burial at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake at noon.

Charlie was born in Tupper Lake to Irene Baker (Lalonde) and Charles P Baker, Sr. on Dec. 18, 1929. He graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1947 and in 1956, he married Alice Dukett from Saranac Lake and they had three children. A hard worker, Charlie worked on the golf course while in high school with his dad and later worked at the Draper Corporation Plant sawing logs and making bobbins for the textile industry. He remained there through the many sales and name changes until the plant finally closed. Also during this time, he was caretaker for up to 14 private camps on Tupper Lake and in his “free time” he also sold CB radios.

After leaving the sawmill, he went back to his roots and returned to working at the Tupper Lake Country Club where he was employed until they would not hire him at age 80. During this time he was very active in the Tupper Lake Moose Club where he held many offices including District 8 president. He was also recognized by earning the highest degree, Pilgrim Degree. He was an avid hunter who kept the freezer full.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice Baker (Dukett); son, Charles J Baker Sr. of Medina, New York; and daughter, Linda Tyo of Canton, New York along with 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren along with a brother-in-law, Ed Dukett of Saranac Lake; and sister-in law, Mary Besaw of Plattsburgh, New York and several nieces and nephews. His death was preceded by his brother, Ozie Baker and daughter Alice Baker.
